Baking isn't for everyone. It's absolutely easier in most cases to just go buy what you want, the finished product. But then... you don't get to fill the house with delicious warm caramelizing sugar smells or baking fruit or veg or meat - whatever's in the pie you're making.
And as yet, nobody has truly been able to manage to make a candle or an air freshener that smells exactly like fresh bread. Don't have yeast? Use beer. I'm not joking. Beer Bread is a thing and it's ace. And each beer produces a different delicious dimension. You can even make fresh butter with just a jam jar and double cream. Yep. Absolutely true and knackers out even the small underfoot gremlins and allows them kudos to proudly declare that they helped. You're welcome. Not to mention the accomplishment you feel. And how the taste is somehow just that bit nicer when you did a thing well yourself. So this baking day, have a try.
I'm not suggesting something complicated. Here are a few choices which are good to get you started, minimal equipment and zero experience required. Click the images for the recipes.
I hear you, over there. Yes, you. Saying "I don't do baking"...even the most useless and incompetent gremlin has managed this next one. There is chocolate. There is goop. It's made in a few minutes. No fancy equipment required, just a mug and a spoon. Perfect for emergencies at any time of day, and absolutely delicious.
Even Smiffy couldn't mess this one up. Grab Duncan's recipe here:
